The Goal Post Waltz

If you listen closely, you can hear the muted sound of the orchestra playing the Goal Post Waltz. It's a simple little dance in three quarter time that the left, the mainstream media (excuse the redundancy) and their dancing unicorns love.

The American left loves to change the rules and conditions after the fact. At one time it was very successful, but now, people have caught on to the dance and see it for what it is.

Earlier today this story appeared on my Facebook news feed. It was posted by one of my "progressive" Facebook "friends". I found it amusing because he must have forgotten about the conversation we had several months ago about the left always moving the goal post. It was during a conversation on another issue we were debating at the time.

Anyway, what we have been witnessing during the Kavanaugh soap opera is one of the classic leftist tactics from that old, tired and worn  "Democrat" playbook.

Most people have forgotten that before the confirmation hearings began, the Senate "Democrats" proclaimed that they were voting no on confirmation. Bob Casey Jr. (D PA) stated on the radio months ago that he would vote no on any nominee that Trump put forth. I know this because of a commercial for a labor program that a local radio station plays about every hour. Corey Booker (D NJ) stated the same in an interview before the hearings began. The only "Democrat" Senator that I know of to state that they would wait to see what happened in the hearings was Joe Manchin (D WV).

During the original hearings it became clear, despite the antics and hysterics of the Democrat Senators, "I am Spartacus", that it was apparent that Judge Kavanaugh would have the votes to be confirmed.... Enter Christine Blasey Ford and her allegation of sexual assault by Judge Kavanaugh 36 years ago when they were both minors.

Now, everyone understands the climate that the #MeToo movement has created. Well played Sen. Feinstein. Well played. This delayed the confirmation by ten days. During that time the weasel faced ambulance chaser and "Attorney to the Porn Stars" Michael Avenatti, dug up another accuser who alleged that Kavanaugh was one of the ring leaders of  a "gang rape ring" in suburban Maryland.

Then came the testimonies... Ms Blasey Ford came off as sympathetic as she was questioned, but gave no evidence to back up the allegation. As a matter of fact the witnesses she named have all denied knowing of, or participating in, the event. She also didn't remember the date, the location or even how she got home that evening. When it was Judge Kavanaugh's turn to testify, He lambasted the process, denied every accusation and passionately defended himself his friends and his reputation. I don't believe the "Democrats" were prepared for what happened because he came off as righteously indignant and believable. He defiantly answered every question asked of him.

During the questioning, the "Democrats" attempted to get Judge Kavanaugh to ask for a new FBI investigation to "clear his name". It didn't matter that Judge Kavanaugh had undergone six FBI background checks during his time working within the federal government. Even though there was no evidence, it was somehow up to him to prove his innocence.... That's not how it works America. The burden of proof is always on the accuser.
The Republicans were having none of this and rightly pointed out that the Ranking Member of the committee, Sen. Feinstein, secretly had the letter with the allegation in her possession for six weeks before the hearings. She had interviewed Kavanaugh without telling him about the allegation in the letter and did not tell the Chairman of the committee of the allegation. That's six weeks worth of time where these allegations could have been investigated quietly. And, if true, the nomination would have been withdrawn, Dr. Ford would not have had to go through any of this and neither would Judge Kavanaugh and his family.  The hearing adjourned with a vote scheduled to recommend the nomination to the full Senate the next morning.

Vote time in the morning... Oops, delay to the afternoon. I don't know what it is about the GOP, but they always have squishy RINO types who want to appear "reasonable". You would think that a state with open carry laws would produce senators with a spine, but Flake did what Flake has always done. He decided he was going to compromise, but his compromise was rather one way.. The "Democrats" gave up nothing and gained more time. Flake voted to send the recommendation out of committee, but stated that his confirmation vote was contingent upon an FBI investigation being opened. The White House conceded and the FBI opened a new investigation.

That very afternoon, I saw the first article on Judge Kavanaugh's "temperament". It's like the article was just waiting to be published. Now I don't know about you, but if I was wrongly accused of sexual assault and leading a gang rape ring, I don't believe I would have been able to stay as composed as Kavanaugh was. He had a right to be angry and as far as I'm concerned he held in that anger a lot better than most people would. There is no evidence that anything that has been alleged ever happened. The man's good name, reputation, family and career is at risk. If he had shown no emotion, the left would have claimed that as evidence of his guilt. Oh yes, you know they would have.
However, the temperament talking point began to fade quickly as more and more information has come to light on the various individuals making the accusations. The Rhode Island assault claim has been retracted and an FBI investigation of the individual making that claim has been opened. The Ramirez accusation has petered out and the ambulance chaser's client, Swetnick, has some serious holes in her story and has begun to retract statements. Her credibility has come under serious scrutiny over the past few days as well. Most Americans agree that the anger of a man falsely accused is not only accepted, it's also expected.
It's interesting to note that not a single individual who ever appeared in the Judge's court ever complained about his "judicial temperament".

And that brings us to the article mentioned at the  beginning of this blog post: "Kavanaugh's Angry "Testimony Raises Doubts Over Future Impartiality"... Where, oh where to begin. Judge Kavanaugh apparently takes his role as a judge seriously and many people who know him and have worked with him praise his integrity. His impartiality has never been questioned. I believe that he will be as impartial as any human judge can be.
He will be confirmed and if in the off chance that his impartiality may have been compromised? Well, karma can be a bitch. You reap what you sow. You rolled the dice, accept the outcome.
